Art print on canvas Skrudur 20x20cm
Skrudur Island rises steeply out of the sea in Faskrudsfjordur and is by many bird spotters in Iceland considered a gem.
In the island is a large cave where fishermen stayed during the fishing season, on their way to the south. The lush vegetation, which hardly loses its green colour during winter is richly fertilized by the myriad of birds nesting there. People collected eggs and hunted birds every year on the island, and still do.
The island is one of many great spots in Iceland to go birding. Many sea birds make their nests on the island and spending a few hours there can well pay off. Northern Gannet is in abundance in Skrudur, along with puffins, kittiwakes and fulmars.
Legends say, three giants brothers were living in the East, one of them in the Skrudur island, the other in Streitishvarf and the last in Papey island.
