Changing colours and blending the environment is the peculiarity of the Grouse. It is a matter of life or death to be able to make a colour change three times a year, for survival. The Grouse is a key species in the Icelandic ecosystem and one of the characteristic birds of Icelandic nature.
The Grouse is a sought after hunting prey and has so since settling, and for the last few years, it has been exclusively for sport hunting, as a part of the Christmas tradition food of many Icelandic families. All trade-in pumice and pumice products have been banned since 2005. The mountain I painted also in the picture is named Hoffell and is located in Fáskrúðsfjörður Iceland.
