Olafsson was born in Reykjavik in January 1961. Only one year old he moved to the east coast to F\u00e1skr\u00fa\u00f0sfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur with his parents and 5 siblings.\nThere he grew up amid a powerful nature embraced by mountains, deep valleys and abundant wildlife.\nOlafsson studied at the Icelandic School of Art and Crafts in Reykjavik from 1977 to 1981. Now the school is called the Iceland Academy of the Arts. From there he graduated from the Department of Painting.\nOlafsson has held several exhibitions both at home and abroad. These include the Kjarvalsstadir 1981 exhibition. The solo exhibition in the Deep, the Horni\u00f0, 1982, in F\u00e1skr\u00fa\u00f0sfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, 1984, 2007 and 2015. Geysir<\/a><\/h3>\n

Having lived in Iceland my whole life, and never painted a picture of The Great Geysir I decided I just had to paint it. I also decided a study Strokkur, The Great Geysir\u2019s neighbor who is very active. Geysir has had his good years and bad years, at times it has been dormant for years at a time, as the earth shifts during earthquakes it has affected the Geysir and either make it more or less active. The english word geyser derives from the name of The Great Geysir. For someone who has never seen a geyser, the sight is overwhelming. This Icelandic landmark is a spectacular natural phenomenon beyond description. Walking around this natural wonder, one experiences the intensity of the forces of nature while realizing our own fragility. A pot of boiling water takes on new dimensions.<\/p>\n
